Supporting Severely Injured Service Members
[Article orginally published in MDD Expressions Newsletter]
Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is leading the corporate wide initiative OPERATION IMPACT whose mission is to provide transition support to military service members who have been severely injured in the global war on terrorism by identifying potential career
opportunities.
Eligibility Criteria
Not only is a severely disabled service member eligible for
OPERATION IMPACT, but a family member who is the primary wager
earner for a severely injured service member meeting the program
criteria is also eligible. Severely disabled is defined as having a
disability rating of 30% or greater, and Special Category (SPECAT)
designation. Additionally, the injury or illness must have been incurred
in combat operations on or after September 11, 2001.
An I&TSD task team met with the Army’s DS3 task team in December ’04 and January ’05. The program quickly expanded to sector and corporate levels.
Frank Moore, sector vice president and general manager for MDD, is
very enthusiastic about OPERATION IMPACT. He recently discussed
it with his senior leadership team, saying, “I can’t think of anything
better for MDD than to continue our support of the warfighter back
here at home. We need to create opportunities in our organizations for
these service members.”
Look for more information as OPERATION IMPACT rolls out across
Mission Systems, and particularly across Missile Defense Division.
The ideal situation is to have jobs waiting for soldiers; not soldiers waiting for jobs.
